Granted, this film was bad at first but if u can get through the first 20 minutes the rest of the movie is quiet entertaining. I had trouble seeing Spader as a wimpy person similar to his character in Bad Influence but as it went on it is a very sweet and funny movie. You need to see past the iffy acting and really look at the soul of it. Worth the rental, not quiet the buy though :)

    By so bad.
This movie was just awful. Great actors, so I figured it would be worthwhile. Not so much, and it takes a lot for me to dislike something. I wish I could give it half a star.
  • worse than community theatre

That title was actually a terrible insult to community theatre. These are good actors, they must have been trying to act poorly, thinking they would come off campy and that this would be funny...?!? Whatever it was, it did not work. This movie is almost unwatchable it is so bad. Idiotic and predictable dialogue, terrible acting, poorly executed slapstick, absurdity that ends up just being stupid and not comicly absurd. Oh, this is just such a bad movie. Save yourselves, run away, just run away!

Do not waste your time or money. Strangely it's a great cast of amazing actors. Bad everything else... including the acting.

If anyone doubted after "Boston Legal" that James Spader is one of the finest comic actors of our time, you only have to watch "Speaking of Sex" to corroborate it. This movie begins with one of the funniest chase sequences ever filmed, and then unfolds into a remarkably complex and utterly slapstick story of love, marriage, therapy and litigation. Jay Mohr is charmingly dopey as the clueless husband, Lara Flynn Boyle is at her delectable hammy best, Bill Murray and Katherine O'Hara are note perfect and Melora Walters provides just the right amount of smoky sweetness to make this one of the best comedies I've seen in decades. Don't watch it with the kids (unless their grown and very well adjusted!) Definitely watch it with someone you love, or are at least sleeping with. Bravo!
