Description

Hollywood’s best-known monsters collide in one of the great classic horror films of the 1940’s. This terror-packed story features Bela Lugosi as the Frankenstein monster and Lon Chaney, Jr. as the cursed Wolf Man. Beginning as a moody chiller, director Roy William Neill sets the stage for an unforgettable clash. The resurrected Wolf Man, seeking a cure for his malady, enlists the aid of mad scientist Patric Knowles, who claims he will not only rid the Wolf Man of his nocturnal metamorphosis but will also revive the frozen body of Frankenstein’s inhuman creation. Co-starring Maria Ouspenskaya, Lionel Atwill and Ilona Massey, this is a chiller for fans of all ages.

I first saw this as a child of around 10. It was and still is a most enjoyable film. The atmosphere is wonderfully creepy. Add the nostalgia element and it earns my 5 stars.

A nice addition to any monster movie collection but the price is outrageous.

This movie began great but ended semi boring and anticlimatic. The beginning was spooky, eerie fantastic and as the movie progresses it is good however I found that it just began to lose its appeal once the wolfman met up with Frankenstein. there is too little of Frankenstein terrorizing anyone, instead he is obedient towards lon chaney and they focus too much at the end on lon chaney being human that the movie lost its appeal. when the wolfman finally encounters or fights Frankenstein, it feels as if I am watching a 1940's wrestling match. First 40 minutes was great the rest quite boring. See the wolfman instead.

Thanks Apple for uploading this classic! This is my favorite Universal Monster movie! Lon Chaney Jr. returns for another round as the Wolf Man who, even a man who is pure at heart and says his prayers at night may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright. People have complained about Bela Lugosi's portrayal of Frankenstein....but oh well. He had some big shoes to fill, now didn't he? [pardon the pun] Anyway, the story is great and what makes it worth watching is getting to the battle between two of the most famous monsters in Hollywood. A classic that is not to be missed anytime soon. BTW for those of you wondering how the Frankenstein monster survived in Ghost of Frankenstein I'll give you an explanation. According to my book Universal Monsters: A Legacy of Horror, a flood washed the Frankenstein monster away from the lab and had been frozen for some time due to the flood. Also it reported that Frankenstein's monster originally spoke in this one, which keeps in continuity with the previous film. However, test audiences laughed [though they never laughed when the voice of Bela Lugosi was introduced after the brain transplant]. Just a bit of trivia for you Universal Monster fans.

This is one of the classic old school movies from the Saturday night scare movies. The only thing is that the Wolf Man and Frankenstein don't actually fight until the end of the movie and it is on for a minute or so. Still a pretty good movie. You should watch the original Wolf Man and Frankenstein as this movie makes a ton of references to the first movies for each. Lon Chaney is the best Wolf Man.
