This film is not your usual vampire film. Which is a compliment. There are many complex undertones that may be missed by a viewer for a few reasons. The most obvious one is the voice over work done in English. If you truly want to enjoy and appreciate this film I strongly suggest you watch the original German version. Having viewed both the American and German versions I went from simply liking the movie to loving it. The original is called "Wir Sind Die Nacht". To hear the actors in their native language enhances the understanding of the characters immensely.

Exposing the reality of immortality, once one can be given no limitations all sense of restraint, moral judgment and basic lessons we learn in good education and faith decay leaving only a shell of the former person, only to produce a monster. Reflecting upon my experience as a viewer I prefer drawing back to when Lena was first exposed, many casual observers may not have noticed by “we are the night” has strong elements as a classic tragedy underneath all the glitz and glamour. For lack of succinct phrasing a certain level of concentration becomes lost. A reoccurring motif of a twisted love triangle is revisited numerous times between Louise, Lena and Tom, but fails to be convincing or a driving force. Truthfully their pact was dysfunctional because their lifestyle was based in indulgence as opposed to logic; demonstrated by other depictions of vampiric societies whom employ specific rules meant to protect themselves from exposure in society while allowing them to exist within it. Louise, Nora and Charlotte were internally damaged as people and in linear probability foreshadowed an imminent collision leading toward demise. Soundtracks for this ensemble are well placed and set appropriate moods, often complimenting the scenes in which they are included. My recommendation, be your own judicator since it has an acquired taste.

This is a film of genuine quality and (contrary to the photo and summary) not just another cheesy skin-flick exploiting the vampire theme. Excellent casting, good acting, good character and plot development, great sets. Above all, it brings an interesting new angle to vampire movies (not revealed in the summary or tomato reviews). Engaging and enjoyable start to finish.
