Description

Xavier Dolan's sexy and stylish HEARTBEATS is a comic exploration of a romantically obsessed menage-a-trois. HEARTBEATS was a hit at the Cannes Film Festival, winning the Youth Prize, and an official selection of the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. Part farce, part exploration of the complexity of love and desire, Heartbeats centers on two close friends, Francis (Xavier Dolan) and Marie (Monia Chokri), who find themselves fighting for the affections of the same striking young man (Neils Schneider). The more intimate the trio becomes, the more unattainable the object of their infatuation seems, sending the friends' obsession into overdrive.

The director is so handsome. And the movie is beautiful and kind sad. Anyway I would like to watch it over and over again.

There's a lot to like about this movie. Very unique and I really enjoyed the music. The actors were great and the story interesting. A couple things I did not like include the relentless cigarette smoking. Reminded me of what a disgusting addiction that is. It kept me from fully enjoying the great characters because they were constantly slinging ashes and woofing smoke up their nose. Like an unpleasant flashback to decades ago when smoking was considered cool. My other dislike was the periodic break-away scenes of strangers sharing their odd thoughts on relationships. Who the heck where those people and why was I subjected to their boorish jabbering? Having said that, this is still a very artistic and creative film. Well acted by the three main characters.
  • So interestingly strange.

I watched this movie as a random choice from Comcast on demand. I had no clue it was foreign, i know nothing about French, and normally hate subtitled movies. Bit I was instantly captured by how weird it was at first. And soon completely forgot that it was in French. I love this movie, it is so unique, something almost every modern American movie needs. I am buying this. And I never buy anything off of iTunes.

Arty. There was litle to like about these characters. Nacissistic. Bitchy. Defeatest. Lots of fast cuts for no reason. Jumpy zooms. Why? Three main characters in a sort of infatuation triangle. And then a bunch of individuals delivering little speaches about he foibles of love. Who are these people? Why are they here? Don´t watch if you´re trying to quit smoking. Every character in every scene lights up. The rooms are full of smoke. More symbology?
