Description

“Gut-bustingly funny. Bridesmaids gets an A!!!” (Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly) From the producer of Superbad, Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin comes the breakout comedy critics are calling “brazenly hysterical!” (Alynda Wheat, People) Thirty-something Annie (Kristen Wiig) has hit a rough patch but finds her life turned completely upside down when she takes on the Maid of Honor role in her best friend Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) wedding. In way over her head but determined to succeed, Annie leads a hilarious hodgepodge of bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to the big event.

I died laughing at the food poisoning scene so hard!! Go check it out if you haven't seen Bridesmaids! Kristen Wiig is most notably my favorite actress known for this and the Despicable Me trilogy!

There are some funny moments in this film. But the overriding tone is somber and sobering. Wiig plays a character with a “why me” attitude that steers her from ditch to pothole and back again, and, as the film goes on, it becomes tougher and less fun to spend time following a narrative focused on her self-defeating attitude. But the film ends with some optimism (but no promises for Wiig’s character’s future) and there are enough laughs along the way to make it worth a rental. Just don’t expect end-to-end fun. It’s not really that kind of movie (and its not meant to be).

If iTunes had a policy of refunding money on movies that were this bad, they'd have long ago dropped it from their offerings. Don't waste your time or money. It just isn't funny!

I read these glowing reviews, and I'm honestly confused. I rented this movie hoping for a fun comedy. That is not what I got. The main character is depressing and tragic, which doesn't inspire a lot of yucks. Every single aspect of her life is written to be as pitiful and awful as possible. I think I was supposed to laugh at these sequences, but I find it hard to laugh at someone who's life is this completely bereft of joy. The supporting cast feels like it was written to be as loathsome as possible. This isn't a chick flick. This isn't a comedy. This is a movie about awful people being awful to each other, and a thoroughly depressed main character who spends most of her time publicly embarrassing herself. Scenes that were obviously supposed to be funny only managed to make me cringe. The dialogue was painful, the writing was terrible, and after forty minutes of watching in baffled silence (without a hint of laughter), I turned the movie off. I did go back and finish watching it later, but that was more out of a sense of obligation than out of any real desire. And the ending did not make up for the train wreck that preceded it.
