Description

"Why don't you come up sometime and see me?" Screen legends Mae West and Cary Grant heat up the screen in the racy comedy She Done Him Wrong! Nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award®, this classic from the pre-code Hollywood era follows a brash saloon singer (West) with a penchant for troubled men - especially the mission director (Grant) who wants to reform her. The unabashed queen of the double-entendre shines in her first starring role, in what has been called "Mae West's best film" (Leonard Maltin's Classic Movie Guide).

I don't think this is too well known. What a pair - Mae West and Cary Grant? Yes please! A fun and interesting movie with quite a handful of drama. I don't think Cary Grant is too well known at this point (1933?) so this is also a fun snapshot of a man who became a huge star. Oh and my gosh, so easy on the eyes. Totally dreamy. Mae West is fierce - a business owner taking care of business in a rough and tough saloon. Very enjoyable all around.

MAE WEST IS A COMIC GENIUS!! Obviously pple who would watch may west movies r pple who love..Mae west..don't listen to bad reviews that pple who don't know a thing bout real legends & amazing film making.. What a lot of pple don't know is that Mae West wrote almost every single one of her scripts from start to finish wrote 99% of the films she is in everyone's lines etc. she used the name Jane mast. So pple wouldn't think she was bein snobby produced staring written sung by Mae West...& she's also written books under the name Jane mast.. Very smart lady & needs to b remembered just as much if not more as Marilyn Monroe is...

This movie is certainly interesting as a landmark in the history of movies, and also for the appearance of Cary Grant before he'd settled upon the screen persona that would later make him a true legend of cinema. But I was quite surprised by how completely unfunny it is, with just rare flecks of extremely dry wit and then long inexorable passages with no humor at all. I personally found it an utterly tedious experience. So by all means check it out if you're interested in seeing what all the fuss was about, but lower your expectations on the way in and perhaps you'll feel less disappointed than I did.
  • A great Mae West movie with a little bit of Cary Grant

I rented this movie wanting to see a Cary Grant film, but he is not in it for more than about ten minutes. As a Mae West fan, too, I was not disappointed, since this is one of her best starring roles as a woman whom no man can resist (or resist lavishing with diamonds). Although many of her double-entendres might seem tame today, it is clear why she was a pioneer of women in film who are overtly sexual, know what they want and remain firmly in the driver's seat.

Never before ( and never since) has there been a leading lady debut like Mae West. Fair, fat and almost forty, she gives a daring, truly sexual (watch the scenes with Cary Grant -- no pouting or mewing -- just pure sexual aggression) and honestly comedic performance. The one. The only. Mae West. Why don't you come up and see her? She's home most every evening...
