Description

Miles Kendig knows too much. One of the CIA’s top international operatives, he suddenly finds himself relegated to a desk job in an agency power play. Unwilling to go quietly, Kendig, with the aid of a chic Viennese widow, puts himself back in the game by writing a memoir exposing the innermost secrets of every major intelligence agency in the world. The CIAwants Kendig dead, but he refuses to cooperate—he’s having too much fun. Based on Brian Garfield’s best-selling novel, and starring the inimitable comic team of Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson, Ronald Neame’s Hopscotch is a smart and stylish tale of international intrigue and a cat-and-mouse comedy.

One of my personal favorites nobody seems to talk about or even just know. Walter Matthau does a splendid job fleshing out his character as well as the memorable Glenda Jackson and Ned Beatty did theirs. An underated gem, Hopscotch is a gem. "No bullets Joe. I'm proud of you."

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, finally on iTunes. It is in the Drama section, but it is a comedy. Witty and funny in the best sense, Walter Matthau is at his slouchy, comic best, and his pairing with the cool, deadpan Glenda Jackson is perfect. Sam Waterston is the ideal straight man and Ned Beatty the quintessential clueless, explosive, and outsmarted CIA boss. A great team, a funny movie that is entertaining over and over again because it is so well done.
