Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love Never Dies

Big phantom of the opera fan so when I heard there was a sequel I had never felt more complete. But I admit I was hesitant, how would this play out against the original. As yourself if you never saw the original how would you like this play? The answer: YOU WOULD LOVE IT. You must give it its own chance. Love, adventure, heartache, music, a valuable lesson all wrapped up into one. Mr Webber included everything but the kitchen sink. As soon as I heard the music play my heart soared and the Angel of Music lived once again inside my heart, soul, body, and mind. LOVE NEVER DIES IT WILL CONTINUE ONCE IT HAS SPOKEN!

...what ALW was smoking when he wrote this travesty. This was a disaster! The characters one loved in “Phantom” were a 180 from their origins. Sir Andrew rewrote history, bad history. Perhaps he’s had so many other failures that this was written strictly for a financial reason? I’m not sure but as a true “Phantom of the Opera” fan, this was a waste of my time and tarnished the memory of an excellent musical. If you enjoyed the first musical, don’t spend the money on this!

okay i knowww that the story is awful but if you enjoyed phantom (which is probably why you’re here so) you will love this. the music is phenomenal the songs are fun and it’s honestly a good laugh sometimes.

I actually saw the live version and I have to say it was way better than I expected! People need to understand that while this is a sequel it is also a different story that can stand completely on its own. Honestly you don’t need to watch the original to understand what’s going on. Although it is a plus if you know the original story and music. They add bits of the original songs which was a nice way to connect the two shows. I love that we have an understanding with what happened 10 years later and that the Phantom and Christine never stopped loving each other. This story is very beautiful and romantic. The music is BEAUTIFUL! I also loved the dark and twisty spin they put on Coney Island. It’s very fitting for the Phantom’s world. All in all I have to say it was worth watching and I would definitely pay money to see it again! Also, incase you’re wondering they do have a North American tour of this show now! Love Never Dies gets a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! 👍🏼

So, my drama teacher told me she didnt like this, and I didn’t watch it since i didnt want to ruin my love of poto. One day I was bored and took a chance. This was breathtaking and went by so fast. I love the set up and the chemistry. Some songs are beautiful that I will listen to on repeat. It's a nice way of wrapping it up, at first I was scared. Im glad this exist. Watch it!

I think that people have to view this sequel on it's own terms. This is one of the most amazing productions of any stage show ever put on film. The scenic and costume design are perfect and echo Maria Bjornson's original Phantom designs in their beauty and inventiveness. The cast is superb. Ben Lewis blew me away, as did Anna O'Byrne and Simon Gleeson. They were all perfect in their pieces of the triangle, and little Jack Lyall is adorable as Gustave, that unearthly child who could only be one man's son. In all honesty, the first time I saw this, I thought Ben looked too young to be playing the mature Phantom, but he has the gravitas to pull it off, and he sings like no one's business. I have never liked Ramin, and I was in London when the original production was playing - didn't hear anything good, and can't stand his voice anyway. Ben sings the way that the Phantom is meant to sing - a beautiful legit voice bordering on operatic. And he sings like a dream. As the second act drives towards it's conclusion (which is straight out of 18th/19th century literary convention), Ben's performance breaks my heart every time I see the show. This man could be one of the best musical theater actors of his generation - on the strength of this performance, last year I flew 5500 miles to see him in the original Phantom of the Opera in London, and he is even more mind-blowingly, insanely brilliant in the role when you see him live in a theater. I'm going back to England to see him again later this year, because he is just *that* amazing. I'm really thankful for the brilliant Australian company being captured in this film to introduce me to some wonderful artists who have all become firm favorites. I know that there have been complaints about character changes, but in real life, people evolve over a ten year period. I simply suggest getting lost in the visuals, music and story and accepting Love Never Dies for the beautiful production that it is. Happy viewing.

We are die hard The Phantom of the Opera lovers. It's all we ever listen to! Regretfully, this sequel was not all we had hoped. The music was not anywhere near as stunning as in the original, the singers were not as good, and the plot in itself wasn't enjoyable. I found myself constantly checking how much longer the movie had to go. Wasn't worth the $15 that was paid. The ending was odd and unfitting... Meg and Christine were always best friends... Needless to say, best friends don't shoot each other. The only part we were excited and happy over was the fact that Christine's son was Phantom's as well. We had called that from after the second time watching the original 2004 movie. Other than that, the movie was disappointing as it seems like ALW rushed to finish the sequel. It wasn't thought out and it seems like bad fan-fiction. If you plan on watching, I suggest only renting to see if you actually like it. Coney Island wasn't the ideal setting because Phantom's abusive childhood began in a freak show and he wanted nothing more than to leave that place; however, he returns for some reason to a freak show... Just doesn't seem right. Anyway, we're overall disappointed, but I don't regret watching. To get over this, we will rewatch the original film (2004 The Phantom of the Opera) and cry about that one, since it is pure gold and worth every penny spent on it.

I saw it in person and it was fanominal!!! You don't even need to see the original opera to know what's going on!

Overall: it's terrible. I confidently call this "poorly written fan-fiction" only because I know ALW is his own biggest fan. To this show's credit, I don't recognize the music from anywhere else which I can't say about ALW's other work. (Listen to "Echos" by Pink Floyd and your jaw will drop) The actors did everything they could with such hokey dialogue and unbelievable characters.

I honestly haven't even watched the movie because the trailer was so bad!! Honestly giving this movie one star is very generous of me!
