Description

Academy Award winner Al Pacino robs a bank to pay for a sex-change operation for his lover, Leon (Chris Sarandon). Based on a true story. On one of the hottest days of August 1972, three amateur bank robbers plan to hold up a Brooklyn bank. A nice simple robbery: Walk in, take the money, and run. Unfortunately, the supposedly uncomplicated heist suddenly becomes a bizarre nightmare as everything that could go wrong does.

I can be guilty of not reading between the lines, but I got disgusted when they bashed the police and celebrated a bank robber. If I wanted to see that, I would have watched the news.

Great movie especially with actor Al Pacino and supporting actor John Cazale. Dog Day Afternoon is a fantastic movie, the whole plot of the movie is based on a true event that happened in the year 1972. Sonny (Al Pacino) and his pal (John Cazale) terrorize a bank by keeping hostages within, but are they certain they can get away with it? Or will they go to prison facing the music? Rating: 95%

A must watch for lovers of great acting ,especially for those who have only seen Al Pacino's later movies where he is loud and hammy searching for some piece of writing to chew on. Here ,he is in his prime and what a mesmerizing performance he gives. Great movie!

A classic movie that captures the times quite well, featuring Al Pacino at the top of his acting game (no over the top acting here). Based on a true story with memorable characters throughout along with great acting, writing and directing. A must see.
