Description

Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winner Halle Berry stars as one of two homegirls who reacquaint a Beverly Hills millionaire with his long-lost zest for life in this comedy as he teaches them to become Black American Princesses--B.A.P.S. Nisi (Halle Berry) and Mickey (Natalie Desselle - "How to be a Player") are two African-American women with two ambitions: to marry rich men who will give them lots of money and to open the world's first combination hair salon and soul food restaurant. But eligible bachelors and business opportunities are in short supply in Decatur, Georgia, so the pair hit the road to California and found much more than they ever expected to find.

Gaping plot holes aside, my 5 stars are for its being a great film if not necessarily a very good one. I sought it out upon the passing of Natalie Desselle-Reid this week, who burst to stardom here. She shines bright amidst a pair of the greatest stars of all time--Halle Berry and Martin Landau--who also give Oscar-quality performances here, in a very very funny, goofily silly, deeply heartfelt movie which has aged very well for woke audiences in the 2020s and, I hope, long beyond. BAPS never cops out and always takes its characters seriously, never losing its moral center, while going for laughs effectively and reliably throughout. Good satire is prescient: this comedy understands its targets so well that it plays better now than it did in the 20th century.

This movie is really stupid and unrealistic. I think it’s comical when a guy dresses nice at the end of movie and he’s suddenly a changed man. Don’t waste your time on this movie.

corny, badly acted, badly directed, terrible overdubs, cliche storyline........and funny. Drags a little after the first 45 min or so, but still charming. Solid laughs. Sort of like a better than average TV comedy. not art, but fun. One of the better 90's urban movies

I don't think Halle Berry would do this movie with her recent success but honestly it's the best ever!! Trashy, distasteful, and so much fun!!! Just sit back, relax, and ENJOY!! You will not be disappointed.
