Description

This whimsically edgy comedy follows teenager Megan (Natasha Lyonne), whose suburban existence filled with friends, cheerleading, and all-American fun is upended when her straight-laced parents suspect she may be a lesbian. In a panic, they send her to True Directions, a "rehabilitation" camp run by the strict and prudish Mary (Cathy Moriarty), to mount an intervention led by counselor Mike (RuPaul Charles). Megan dutifully follows the program — until she develops feelings for another camper in this timeless, satirical romantic-comedy about self-acceptance and love, costarring Michelle Williams, Clea DuVall, and Julie Delpy.

This movie is the perfect blend of the reality of conversion therapy but mixed with enough humor to make it bearable and enjoyable overall. I love it so much and there are very few movies that capture the good and bad so accurately.

The film is hilarious with homosexual stereotypes. But it has a beautiful meaning in the end which is to accept who you are and don’t let others bring you down. Great film.

Ever notice, everything immoral & 'Odd' (mean other more relevant word), it is EDITOR'S Choice, and everything Good & Christian leaning, and it is panned, even something 20 years ago.....my God, then even went to the trouble of making this 4K!....LOL! Actually quite sad.

Still my favorite LGBT movie 20 years later...Kudos to Natasha Lyonne, Clea Duvall, Mink Stole, and RuPaul (who was uncharacteristically out of drag!)

I saw this movie for the first time this week and I absolutely adore it. I wish I saw it when I was much younger.

One of my favorite movies! It’s a comedy and is hilarious! But, it’s actually very realistic. I went through 2 different “pray the gay away” programs years ago and they were ridiculous and insane just like the one portrayed here. Some things are slightly embellished but most are not. I left feeling so awful about myself. Happy to say, I am out and proud now and couldn’t be any happier! 😀 Btw, both programs are now defunct and one openly admitted that one cannot change orientation. Be your true self and love yourself. “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else..” —RuPaul Great comedy, great cast, great message.👍🏼👍🏼
