Saoirse is one of my favorite actresses so I’ll watch anything she’s in. This was so vague though. There wasn’t enough story to entertain me. Kissing cousins?!! What war is this? I wouldn’t recommend this movie to anyone.

This was great, really diffrent and doesnt hold your hand through the story and lets your mind make some choices about the pre-text to the film.
  • Absolutely Extraordinary!

Critics have criminally overlooked this masterpiece. Most reviews miss the whole point of the film or, due to inattention, make comparisons to Hunger Games, etc. This film is an absolutely adult movie about growing up, what love really means, how we deal with sadness and loss, and the beautiful, heartbreaking reality of war. The stories runs on a dozen different themes and never in my life have I seen a movie that blends a compelling coming-of-age love story with a brutal, devastating, almost apocalyptic storyline. I couldn’t recommend this higher!
  • Apocalyptic backstory with a lesson in what real love is!

For me, the story worked on a lot of levels. The aftermath of what would happen in a nuclear war was realistic, if not brutal. The language and interaction of the characters was believable and well done. The consequences of such an event in the lives of the main characters was horrific. Yet, all of this was overcome by the commitment of Ronan’s character to her chosen mate who was destroyed by what he experienced. She did not abandon him or the remaining cousin. Her love was Christ-like in that her love was self-sacrificing and redemptive. She was there for them in their hour of need and crisis and would be there for them the rest of their lives. She chose to sacrifice her life in mending the broken lives of her cousins. It was an act of will and courage. This is the bedrock of what real love is: commitment, not whimsy and emotion.
  • A different kind of apocalyptic‎ film

More realistic in it’s approach to what might actually happen if the world went to war. Little communication, little understanding and even less humanity. A strong performance from Saoirse Ronan who has been strong in all her roles.
