Were to begin? Technically a terrible movie on all acounts. Being a sailor the elements of the actions taken after hitting a floating container, a real possibility, are absolutely ridiculous. No seasoned passage making sailor would make the mistakes the way Redford portrays this person. Do not waste your money. Ugh!
  • 4.5 for most, but a '3' for boaters.

If you boat open-water, do not watch this movie! Cinematically, it is a well-done film. However, as a boater, it will be hard to watch as you will view the film differently than most viewers. Your distraction with the inauthenticity of many technical aspects will be too distracting throughout. Cinematically, the film is great, but if a movie-maker's premise is boating/sailing and you miss glaring technicals, well, that affects overall quality. Three-stars due to that misstep. For non-boaters, a great film. Felt like Redford's attempt at Hank's epic 'Castaway'.

This movie was riduculously boring. If you are into artsy movies where one word is spoken throughout the duration.. this *might* interest you.. otherwise, look for something else.
  • Corny. The only way to describe it

I liked Cast Away and Martian. A friend recommended this movie. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 94%? Standards are low. There is nothing to his horrible movie about nothing. At no point do we even know why he's on the ocean alone. No backstory, no dream, flashback, nothing. Redford acting is terrible too. It's like he's teaching an acting class "If your tired, make this gesture. If you're cold, rub your arms." Ugh. Just corny as heck.

This movie is fantastic. Robert Redford somehow lets you empathize with our man, with nearly no dialogue. The story telling, movie making and acting are outstanding. The story couldn't get more human.
  • Worst. Movie. Ever.
