Description

Jake Gyllenhaal reteams with PRISONERS director Denis Villeneuve in this sexy and mind bending thriller. Adam Bell is a glum professor who has grown disinterested by his ordinary life. When Adam discovers a man who appears to be his double, the identical men meet and their lives become bizarrely and hauntingly intertwined. Gyllenhaal is transfixing playing both roles, journeying through a world both familiar and strange. The film’s final and unnerving image will not be soon forgotten by audiences. In the end, only one man can survive.

Beautiful movie. Loved it. Went back and forth between whether they were twins or the Adam/Anthony character had multiple personality disorder. You can see by my title which one I think it is. Beautiful beautiful film. Will watch this multiple times to find the clues. You should too.

I love jake gyllenhaal and the acting is great but ive never seen a movie playout like this in my entire life. Not allowing you to understand so i looked up the meaning and explanation to the movie and was dumbfounded. Whomever came up with this script definitely wasnt hired to write another.

Three stars is right for this movie. Too slow - I fell asleep several times. The ending was not satisfying and the movie has no apparent meaning. The theory that this is somehow about a totalitarian regime is far-flung and dubious. I like artsy films, but I don't like when directors lazily throw out themes but they are not really connected in a thoughtful way. The film successfully evokes a creepy mood at times, but that is its only accomplishment.

Tense, mysterious, and disturbing. It kind of feels similar to a film like Lost Highway. I guess it probably fits the psychological thriller genre. It's probably not for everyone, but if you're into weird, dark, psychological thrillers then I'd highly reccomend it.

This is truly a soon to be Film Noir Classic. Jake Gyllenhaal is amazing as a frumpy, boring ho-hum professor...or is he? This is a thinking persons movie. The deliberate use of depressing colors are cold and empty. The soundtrack is a calculated maelstrom of cerebral tripping.
  • i might watch it again... but idk

"Enemy" is what might happen if someone let Terrence Malick make a "Twilight Zone" episode, with a quick rewrite by David Cronenberg.' that is a quote from San Francisco Chronical's Peter Hartlaub and after watching it i kind of wish that this movie had been directed by Malick and had Cronenberg come up with the ending because at least it would have been more visually pleasing and had better music. still worth watching if you have the luxury of being at home on your couch instead of in a theater.

What a pile of pseudo artistic self-indugent garbage. Even for .99 cents, don't waste your time or money. It's one of those silly films that is tediously drawn out with LOTS of silence and turtle slow meandering as you try to figure out what the heck is happening. Here's a hint, you'll never know or care.
