Description

Elton John’s “The Million Dollar Piano” is a residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The show has been running since September 2011 with the most recent leg being 16 shows between March 29 and April 26 2014. The concerts are the culmination of Elton John’s decades long partnership with Yamaha pianos. This film features classic Elton John tracks from across his extraordinary career performed either with his band, with percussionist Ray Cooper or solo. The multimedia staging is extraordinary with vast screens behind the stage illustrating the songs and the piano itself acting as a screen for graphics and animations. Elton John is the ultimate live showman and this is the definitive Elton John concert experience.

It never fails to amaze me when I see reviews that try to compare an artist at one point in his/her career with another! Each effort needs to be judged on its own merits. I’ve been an EJ fan since day one! The first time I heard him, his music shook me to my very core. I’ve seen his amazingly entertaining concerts over the years, and each one goes to show what a consummate showman EJ is. Few artists over the years have inspired me as much as EJ. If I were ever asked “what is your favorite of his songs?”, it would be almost impossible considering the breadth and depth of his diverse catalog.

State of the art lighting and sound. With a mix of hits and album cuts. Elton's singing and playing has never been better. Watching this isn't as good as seeing him in person but it still an amazing spectacle to enjoy.

Between this and his concert, here in Salt Lake City I can only say he is still one hell of a performer.

He needs to close the piano and just walk away. His dignity is at stake. Simply put, he no longer has even close to a singing voice. I dunno, maybe nobody around him will tell him the truth or maybe he just needs the money. But whatever the case, performances like this are now just too painful to watch. Paying $16 makes it even worse.

I just watched the movie...I have grown up with Elton John: from the days in 1970 as a DJ at my college radio station playing all the new music thru difficult times in my life when no other music could possibly fit. Unfortunately, I have never been able to see him live in concert. But through his live performances on film I feel that I almost have. I read a review from someone who said they were disappointed that it was not the EJ of the 60's and 70's...well of course it isn't. But, I have found that the greatest things in my life are things savored: reminiscent of the best of the past but fully standing on their own today! Elton's music is precisely one of those treasured things representing the very best that great music can represent. Like a fine wine, a favorite restaurant, or a mountain or sea scape that has weathered the ages. How utterly boring if everything remained the same...thankfully, Elton John has not remained the same. He ands is music have not just grown but aged to perfection! This is a great concert movie...buy it: you will not be disappointed! Enjoy!

Really not the 1970s EJ that use to be....

It’s amazing that a singer-songwriter nearing his 70th birthday still has such a powerful stage presence and command of his band and audience. Elton’s voice admittedly has deepened throughout the years, and some of the gusto is gone from larger numbers, but he is a testament to what a real perfumer is about - singing live without any help from a machine. My favorite of the movie is Indian Sunset, a classic song that doesn’t get the radio play it deserves. Other gems include Levon (keyboard pounding at its finest) and Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me. It is worth the purchase, especially if you are an EJ fan, and would be a great opportunity to get younger listeners involved in one of rock and roll’s greatest, as I did when I was 13 (now 29) years old.
