Academy Award winner Jimmy Stewart stars as a real-life hero who overcomes overwhelming adversity--twice--in The Stratton Story. Former baseball big-league catcher Barney Wile (Frank Morgan) discovers an amazing talent in Texas farm boy Monty Stratton (Stewart). Wile spends a winter on a small cotton farm teaching Stratton everything he knows about pitching. By spring, Stratton tries out as pitcher for the White Sox--and goes on a date with a girl named Ethel (June Allyson). After years in the minor leagues, Stratton works his way up to the majors, to a wedding with Ethel, and then to baseball stardom. But Stratton loses a leg in a hunting accident. Now, can he fight his way back to the big leagues, doing something no one has ever done before: pitching a major league game with a prosthetic leg?
