Description

The Young Turks, one of the most popular online news shows in the world, has amassed a YouTube network of over 2.4 million subscribers and 2 billion views. But that wasn’t always the case. MAD AS HELL documents the tumultuous, at times hilarious and altogether astonishing trajectory of Cenk Uygur, The Young Turks’ main host and founder, as he traverses from unknown Public Access TV host to internet sensation by way of YouTube. When he ventures into national television by landing the 6 PM time slot on MSNBC, Cenk’s uncensored brand of journalism is compromised as he becomes a thorn in the side of traditional news media; his unwavering dedication to speaking the truth puts him at the very nexus of the battle between new and old media, and makes MAD AS HELL not only entertaining, but incredibly timely as well.

TYT is the only news media company in the world who is interested in discovering the truth and exposing it to the world. This documentary follows Cenk’s journey to fight injustice in the world in the best way he knows how: entertaining you. Cenk’s colleague from law school, who at the end of the documentary said that Cenk isn’t influential because he’s preaching to the choir, is WRONG. Cenk has peaked the interest of millions of people around the world who otherwise weren’t interested in politics or were getting misinformation from the mainstream media. Additionally, what Cenk is doing through Wolf PAC is revolutionary. Cenk has and will continue to single-handedly change the corrupt U.S. political system.

I'm a recent fan of the show and I can honestly say that when I began listening, I felt emotionally conflicted with some of the topics but logically I didn't disagree with them. That's when I began to realize I had some irrational biases. Thanks to the candor of Cenk and the rest of the TYT cast I've been a fan whose not only entertained but now a loyal listener. I loved learning about Cenk and the come-up of TYT. #whatisthissssssssssss

Regardless of if you agree with his politics or not, it’s an interesting look into how an important youtube show started. I would definitely consider showing this documentary to college students in my classes. Most young people these days don’t get their news from traditional sources, myself included….and I’m not even young anymore. The documentary itself, could have been better. The editing and directing…just okay. It’s really the content and subject matter that makes it worth watching. If you have any interest in how an independent show works and the people behind it, this is worth a watch. Thinking about it one complaint I have is I would have liked to see more about other staff members and their job. Although the documentary focuses much on Cenk, he can in no way do it alone.

This Movie Is Soo Amazing, although I did think it was missing a few things. I wanted to hear more about Wolf-Pac & the progress that has been made. I also wanted to hear about Cenk & Keith Olbermann's falling out (so to speak). Also some of the older videos like Cenk doing the car tire commercial wasn't present. I have a few more quandaries with the movie, but I guess I wanted this movie to capture in it's 1 hour & 22 minutes the same magic that I loved everyday for years watching The Young Turks, so that even my friends would get a taste of what the worlds largest online news show is all about. So in those regards it fell a bit short. I suppose my hype for this movie was far to high, & it couldn't have had all the content in it that I wanted without being several hours long. So all in all I would say the movie is still pure amazing, & despite it's minor flaws I would still categorize it as my favorite documentary.
