Description

Oscar nominated Carey Mulligan stars as a headstrong young woman in this passionate romantic drama, based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy. Mulligan plays Bathsheba Everdene, an independent heiress who attracts three very different suitors: a strapping sheep farmer (Matthias Schoenaerts), a handsome and reckless Sergeant (Tom Sturridge), and a prosperous mature bachelor (Michael Sheen).

The movie was made well. I loved the actors and the way it was filmed, but the plot line is so boring and predictable. The plot annoyed me more than anything else, and it seemed to drag on and on just for the most predictable ending I could have expected. Interesting watch, but I did not thoroughly enjoy it.
  • Not Quite Good Enough

While this movie is far from the worse I've seen, it's missing something. Although it turns out as one would hope, it was anti-climatic. Lots of missed opportunities here to fully develop the relationship between characters, and that leaves the story somewhat hanging. It's an OK movie, but not something that is memorable.
  • As good as the book you have read!!!

Carey is amazing in this film! Why has she not won an Oscar yet? Or a Tony?

The story makes no sense, you hate the main character, it's very boring, and it's a big waste of money!

This movie is simply great. I highly recommend it. The acting is superb and the chemistry between Bathsheba and Gabriel is alluring. I had to read the book after the movie. I highly recommend both. Simply great! It is easy to see why the book is known as a classic! This group did a fabulous job at bringing this to life! Kudos!

No depth in the characters. Every close-up of Mulligan is the same. Same grin got old fast. Disjointed screenplay. Too many loose ends. Is it the directing or the casting ? I have been fooled by Rotten Tomatoes too many times. It wasn’t worth renting. Save your hard earned money, unless, of course, you have had the good fortune of inheriting your uncle’s farm.
