Description

As the youngest Member of Parliament and sole heir to his family's 7,000-acre English estate, Lord Edward Montagu's life was one of riches and privilege. However, in 1954, Edward Montagu, then aged twenty-five, became England's most infamous aristocrat when he was arrested for homosexual offences and became the focus of a landmark trial known as “The Montagu Case”. His guilty verdict sent shock waves through British society and became the catalyst to overturn a centuries old law. Edward’s once pristine reputation and career were all but ruined. After serving a year in prison, Montagu re-emerged into the spotlight when he boldly transformed his private estate and family home into a public tourist attraction in a bid to save it from financial ruin. Creating Britain's first motor museum, he pioneered a new form of tourism known as “the stately home business”. His showmanship and success inspired a new breed of aristocrats to open their doors to the public and transformed Edward Montagu into a prominent national figure.

I had the opportunity to see this film at the Newport Beach Film Festival and was immediately taken in by the beautiful cinematography. I'm not usually a fan of biographical documentaries, but this story kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this film.

I had a chance to see this film at the Napa Valley Film Festival and everything from the cinematography to the music were done to perfection. A beautiful documentary about a very impressive aristocrat and most certainly worth every penny.

I love to watch Downton Abbey, so I went to see this at the Dallas International Film Fest. It did not disappoint! Montagu’s story is fascinating and full of twists and turns. I really enjoyed hearing from his family, especially his son and his second wife. The cinematography and scenic locations are gorgeous - one of the prettiest documentaries I’ve seen.

I’m not a huge history buff, but having recently started enjoying Downton Abbey I figured I’d catch this film at the Dallas Film fest. It’s a well made, entertaining and at times heart breaking look into the English aristocracy. and if you like classic cars you’ll find something extra special too. If you like in depth character portrayals I think you’ll dig this.

Got a chance to see the film at Cleveland Int Film Fest and really loved it. This mans life is quite extraordinary. Considering the events that befell him its crazy to think that only 50 years later so much of his hardship wouldn’t even bat an eye. Beautiful cinematography and really good storytelling. I also really like cars. So that was a plus.
