Girlhood is a documentary film about the dramatic three year journey of two girls through the juvenile justice system and back home onto the bleak streets of East Baltimore, Maryland. With unprecedented access to the system and to the complex interior lives of the protagonists, the film provides sometimes shocking insight into the world of young women at-risk. In the end, Girlhood tells a unique coming of age story about mothers and daughters, crime and its consequences, and triumph in the face of hopelessness.
