I had several issues with the second season, first the casting was pretty awful, i'm a big fan of collin o'farrell and liked vince vaughn in dodge ball and a few other comedies, but he just doesn't strike me as a serious, crime boss. It felt awkward watching vince vaughn try to act tough, merciless, and even sadistic at times, so they ended up possibly re-painting the character as a sort of vigilant, good guy/bad guy, a sort of robin hood like guy, who was doing bad things, but ultimately a decent person, i don't know, it didn't work for me. The blonde haired girl that played the detective was just awful, it felt like she was even more out of place than the others, just some hollywood reject that snatched the role god knows how, she tried to act tough and wity, but it came across as just sad, mis-placed. O'farrell was ok, but his character was sort of a burned out loser, i guess he did ok, but i couldn't get over the other actors. There was another young guy that played a detective, i haven't seen him before, but he seemed totally out of place too, not because of his acting, which was ok, but because the character was so awkward. Secondly, the story was second rate, rich folks with power in a vice city, the suspense never really built up, so many new characters would be introduced and then die or fade out, shooting scenes pop up in the middle with no real point to the plot, were they looking to just blow stuff up and shoot a bunch of bullets? Vaughn's girlfriend in the show was pretty good, i saw her in yellowstone, she's a great actress. So the plot didn't add up, didn't have that level of intrigue from the first season, and the casting was really awful, just seemed like a bunch of b-rate hollywood actors/actresses got cobbled together and filmed in los angeles. I'm currently watching the third season, i can tell mccauneghy [sic] and harrelson have the right combination, the filming, the story buildup, the casting, all perfect, the cinema just rolls out and the suspense compels you to want to watch the next episode, this one's just all over the place. At times i looked at vaughn and felt sorry for him because you could tell he was trying, but you felt that he was totally out of his element. He got better towards the end, but never locked me in during the beginning, i just wanted to laugh at his faux seriousness. O'farrell i would say dropped a couple of notches for willing to do this show with this cast, i can understand based on the success of the first season why, but the whole package is something he should be pretty disappointed with. But i feel he'll recover and find some better work next time. That blonde bimbo just seemed like that fast and the furious latino chick, michelle rodriguez or whatever, that same wanting to act tough and youthfully quirky, might as well have had the fast five girl instead on the show, though i don't think that would have worked either. That role should have been cast with someone a bit older, able to hold a tough woman act, not a childish little brat blonde.

Season 1 was so amazing that seasons 2 did not hit the spot at all. I watched first episode and wanted to skip to Season 3 which is not on Itunes yet

After loving Season 1 of True Detective, this Season 2 attempt was just that -- an attempt, and not a very successful one. First of all, I love Vince Vaughn, but he was WAY miscast for this kind of drama. He's good in bromance comedies, but that's the extent of his range. I cringed every time he tried to make a tough-guy move or a passionate speech in this show -- it just looked and felt silly. And why was he affecting a lame East Coast accent when he was clearly in L.A.? Just because he thought of himself as a "wise guy"? And when Colin Ferrel tries to show anguish or any strong emotion, it just seems like he's trying too hard. I made it through to the end of the season, but just barely.

This season should not have been made with Adams, this is not the role for her. The First Season is excellent by Harrelson, and McConaughey. I liked Farrell and Vaughn - great actors and great roles for them too.

This was fantastic. I hate TV these days, its mostly all terrible; but this, outstanding. Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel Mcadams, Tyler Kitsch, and all the rest....absolutely fantastic. The story, the music, the production is all great. I can't say enough, its just that good.

This is the first review I've written on ITunes - but after being riveted with True Detective Season 1 - sorely disappointed in the follow up. Disjointed, poor plot development, and a missed stretch at "artsy" cut aways, etc . . .The only thing that saves this show from a refund is Vaughn.

If you are comparing seasons, there is no comparison. They are different shows, and go in different directions. For me, Season 1 was on the surface and great, and Season 2 is deep and even better. This is as good as a television show that you will ever watch. Acting, Plot, you will be locked in.

Amazing show very different from the first season but great. Disregard bad reviews of the spoon feeders and watch this more than once!
