  • Lots of Passion and Talent… with Poor Animation

Honestly, I am liking the characters and the writing so far for the most part. There are parts especially in the first couple episodes where it feels too fast paced, but it still has that Phineas and Ferb, Milo Murthy’s Law style of writing that I’ve come to expect from Dan, and he is a really good storyteller. Unfortunately, I have to reluctantly remove a star due to the animation. It looks very cheap, character animations are stiff and often lifeless, and the quality isn’t nearly as high as what we got before with Milo Murphy’s Law. I don’t know what happened with the animation or why it looks so much worse than Dan’s previous shows, but it feels like Hamster and Gretel is on a tight budget, or it’s being animated by a different studio that didn’t animate Milo or Phineas. Either way, it does not look good. Hopefully, it will improve overtime. Regardless, I like the characters (Kevin is my favorite), I like the humor, and I especially love the original music. I don’t like the fact that they’re sometimes reusing music from previous shows, but the original music here is fantastic! Overload the Grid is my favorite so far! Overall, while I don’t think Hamster and Gretel is as good as Phineas and Ferb or Milo Murphy’s Law, it’s still really fun and I’m excited to see more!
