Description

The Presidents is an unprecedented eight-part survey of the personal lives and legacies of the remarkable men who have presided over the Oval Office. From George Washington to George W. Bush, The Presidents gathers together vivid snapshots of the 43 Commanders in Chief who have guided America throughout its history to 2008 — their powerful personalities, their weaknesses, and their major achievements or historical insignificance. Based on the book To the Best of My Ability, edited by Pulitzer® Prize-winner James McPherson, The Presidents features rare and unseen photographs and footage, as well as unexpected insights and trivia from journalists, scholars, and politicians. Featured guests include Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Wesley Clark, Bob Dole, and former President Jimmy Carter. Viewed within the changing contexts of each administration, the Presidency has never seemed more compelling and human.

This was a very good series and it kept my attention the whole time. It will give the viewer a basic outline of each of the presidents tenure in office. For you history buffs out there you probably already know all of the items covered in this series. However, for people wanting to start learning the history of the United States, this is an excellent place to start. The coverage all the way up to the 20th century is accrete and you will definitely learn something about the former presidents that aren't so well known. The one problem that I had in this series is you could tell what side of the isle the producers sat on. The Republican presidents of the last century nearly all had primarily negative standings in the eyes of the makes of the episodes. Even the Ronald Reagan, hero of the Republican Party, was highly criticized. Some of the things they said about Reagan were also inaccurate, that being his Star Wars program being crazy and far fetched when we actually have a system that is very similar to that in use. However, they made Jimmy Carter seem godly and he is considered to be one of the worst presidents. If you are a Liberal, BUY IT, it is a great series and you will enjoy it. If you are Conservative but it just stop watching it before they start talking about FDR. Hope this helps!

I've owned the whole series for a while now and I love it entirely . It moves fast enough that you never get bored, one of my favorite shows ever.

This gave little unknown facts about the presidents and us history. But I am an independent who is smack in the middle wiht different opinions on differnent issues. This television series throws Republican and Conservative Administrations UNDER THE BUS and is in total, unfair favor on Democratic partes. Not worth it.

What a great series! I'm so glad I downloaded it to my iTouch! I watch a few of the series on the way from Cleveland to Las Vegas - what a relief for such a long, boring flight! Keep up the good work iTunes! Thanks for being there!

They really gloss over a lot of events that are really important in American History. I.E. They never mention the Mexican-American War and under Polk they talk about Manifest Destiny as if it's some religious experience. It wasn't, it was a justification to invade Mexico and take California from them as well as displacing millions of native Americans living on the plains. Show some academic merit and take a non-biased position for crying out loud! I'm sick of A&E turning American History into patriotic garbage. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud to be an American, but I also recognize there are lots of things we shouldn't be proud of, and that's something A&E doesn't seem to think is very important. I can tell the difference between propaganda and history... can you?
  • Very Good Buy

not amazing, but very good. Besides the first 5 presidents of the nation and Lincoln, the 19th century is very bland. There is a lot of loose material and lack of educated opinions. the 20th century, however, is very cool and i recommend it. Teddy Rosevelt to FDR is very interesting and perspective. I would argue that the second half of the 20th century is a little obvious, but i dont really blame the history channel because every president is suppose to get a fair amount of time in this series
