Description

Millions of Americans struggle with addiction. Most need help to stop. From compulsive gamblers to shopaholics to drug addicts, Intervention profiles people whose dependencies or compulsive behaviors have brought them to a point of personal crisis and estranged them from their friends and loved ones. In this first season of the hit show, you’ll meet real people — honor students and college graduates, a White House intern, an athlete and a musician, mothers and sons — all who have lost themselves in addiction and are in grave danger of losing their lives as well. At the end of each episode, an addict will be confronted by family, friends and a professional interventionist in an often emotional encounter. There the addicts have a choice: go to treatment and get help or face exile and isolation from those who love them most.

Join average, every day looking people with their struggle with alcohol, controlled substances and mental illness. The first time you watch this show you will chill back with disbelief with the destructive, saddening and real results which come from a life under the control of addiction. Jugdement may even leave your thoughts as you are made aware of how traumatic experiences in these individual's lives, have shaped their various relief systems. The show Interventions comes to a refreshing turn as you see the individual faced with a choice: Life or Death. You later follow "the now turned patient" into the stage of recovery. The simple fact is millions of us struggle to make it through each day - and some of us turn to drugs to do so - but the real problem starts when the drugs become the focal point of a person's life. I, myself, have struggled with these demons and I can tell you that this is as real as it gets. Addiction is a treatable disease, not a crime, and needs to be addressed as such. The people that you see on here are real people from families like yours and mine, their problems are real problems, and their hurt, pain, anger, frustration, and every other emotion you can imagine are genuine and palpable. I have watched almost every single episode and have laughed, cried, cringed, yelled, and gone through the whole process with them. I can even credit this show with giving me the strength to face some of my own issues. I don't know how else to say it - this is must-see TV - not that scripted crap they pass off as reality. A&E knows good TV.

i think I need an intervention, because i cannot stop purchasing episodes of this show!! i have an eight-dollar-a-day habit!! but seriously folks, this is one of the best documentary shows that's ever been. in spite of some of the graphic content i really think this should be shown in high schools to show the damaging consequences of addiction. it also sends a crucial message: no matter how low your life has sunk or how hard you think your rock bottom is, you CAN get help. you CAN get your life back. so many people--whatever their circumstances--forget that. watch this show, watch some of these people build themselves back up from the lowest lows, and you'll never forget again.
