Description

Temptation. Torment. Retribution. Rome. The second season of HBO's Emmy®-winning drama series continues to follow the events surrounding the fall of a republic . . . and the birth of an empire. Season 2's storyline picks up right where Season 1 left off: with the 44 B.C. assassination of Gaius Julius Caesar and the near-simultaneous death of Niobe, wife of Caesar's faithful bodyguard Lucius Vorenus. Diverted from his post after learning that Lucius, his assumed grandson, was in fact Niobe's illegitimate son, Vorenus now descends into near-madness over his failure to protect Caesar, his role in his spouse's death, and the rumored murder of his estranged daughters. The ensemble cast includes Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson, Polly Walker, Lindsay Duncan, Tobias Menzies, Kerry Condon, Simon Woods, Lyndsey Marshal, and James Purefoy.

Forget that it plays fast and loose with history. This is a monumental achievement with a recurring superb cast that stunningly and consistently overachieves. It is history writ large and subtly...a total immersion into the ancient world. Sit back and prepare to be instructed and mesmerized.
  • By far the best

in all the history of television. I have seen it all; Rome is head and shoulders above the rest in every conceivable way. We need a season three. Two were not enough. I can forgive a four year hiatus if they will just now make a third season.
  • NOT WORTH $2.99 per episode!!!

Damn good show but not worth the extra dollar per episode. DO NOT buy this show at this inflated price.

as someone who is a big fan of HBO series in general, i must say that this one really takes the cake... in every way... as an enthusiast of Roman history, the accuracy and chronolgy of it all are really as good as i've seen... and the show also does a great job makng viewers personally identify with each character, helping understand the true hardship(bu todays standards) of daily roman life... it also paints a bit of a picture how our government was modled after this and there are many poltical paralells... further, i'd say that even though i'd have loved to see more seasons, history says that we may have found them a trifle boring compared to the upheaval and turmoil of the early Augustan era..

This show is very hard to see, it's very dark, and the quality is poor. Save your money!

I love this series, it's historically accurate to the point of daily life, but some events that are portrayed are not historically correct. Still a great series. What's disapointing is they canceled it do to the fact that it cost too much to produce, the ratings had nothing to do with the ending of the series.

The funniest sarcasm you will find. Atia is the funniest character ever. Every word out of her mouth is dripping with irony. The best writing ever.

I must concur with some others, quite possibly the best show ever on HBO and certainly on television. Simply outstanding! "Wet as October"...who comes up with this stuff??
  • Absolutely worth the money.

This is the most accurate representation of Rome from film to television. With that said, Rome is all around great. From the music and costumes to the acting, it is a great series. Very entertaining. Its like a mix between Desperate Housewives and Gladiator.

I really enjoyed this series, the grit as others have said and the costumes and the story line. Very enjoyable.
