Description

“I have a dream.” These four simple yet powerful words immediately define the extraordinary man, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the phrase is the most powerful symbol of the tears and the triumphs encountered during the turbulent civil rights struggle of the 1960s. His lyrical eloquence moved a nation to demand — in non-violent protest — equal and fair treatment under the law, and in hearts and minds throughout America, for people of all races. This mesmerizing miniseries chronicles the life of Dr. King from his early days as a Baptist minister in the 1950s, through his civil rights activities such as the Birmingham Bus Boycott and the March on Selma, his recognition as one of the most brilliant orators in American history, and his untimely death by an assassin's bullets on that fateful April 4, 1969 night in Memphis. King, nominated for nine Emmy awards, centers around a critically acclaimed performance by Paul Winfield as Dr. King; the strong cast also includes Cicely Tyson as Coretta Scott King and Ossie Davis as Martin Luther King Sr.

I have studied the early Civil Rights movement and Dr. King for many years and found this mini-series to be a good representation of his work. It drags a little here and there as far as an attention grabber, but as a good overview of what he did and how he felt, I think this is a good representation. I personally liked it. It gives you a more personal view of Martin Luther King Jr. and shows a personal perspective you don't necessarily get from a dry documentary.

Dr.King shows that courage is not the lack of fear, but the ability to do what must be done despite fear. I didnt realize what a truly great man he was until I saw this.Even though this is an older miniseries we can still learn so much from it.

I wasn't expecting much from a miniseries... just a lot of fluffed up drama. But this one showed MLK as a man. Someone who stood up for what was right even if he was terrified. We're so used to seeing him as a glorified image of a man. The fear and anger that people must have felt then is palpable while watching this program. I didn't grow up then. But after seeing this I can really see why people of that generation can't shake the hope, fear, or the anger that resulted from it. Very enlightening. A must watch!

I'm not going to give it 5 stars because I reserve that for truly exceptional work, but I thought this was a excellent piece, I have no idea why the other person leaving feedback didn't care for it, but the production quality was very high and I learned a lot about the personal life of Dr. King that I was previously unaware of. I am astonished to find out just now that this is over 30 years old, it would explain why I hadn't heard of it! In that case, I have to say the production qualities are absolutely wonderful, and this work has most definitely stood the test of time! Seriously, I thought this was brand new...

I purchased this season and was deeply disappointed. The quality is low, the content is simply dumb. This airing was just to show that America has made a big step racially, with Obama. Itunes should have mad something else involving the Inaugural, Itunes-- dont try to cross-reference. Do not buy this or even waste your time getting it free....Badly Recommended.
