If you love SG1 & Atlantis stay away from this! Keep your fond memories of the series by not viewing this garbage. I understand wanting to not do the same thing as the past two shows, but the execution of Universe is not the way to go about it. Your constantly taken out of the story by their attempts to make the characters more personable with body jumping using alien stones. It does more to stop the characters bonding aboard the ship with these arcs. This is not the fault of the actors, only the vision of writers who forgot the soul of Stargate . I wish I would’ve never seen this insulting crap.
  • Should be called "SOAP GATE"

I say this series should be called "soap gate" because after about episode five, half of each show is taken up with interaction between the characters that is reminiscent of an old soap opera with lots of crappy dialogue, predictable petty conflicts, and unnecessary yelling. The characters are all paper-thin stereotypes I fnind it impossible to care much about. The whole crew is supposed to be subsisting on these really crappy meager rations, but everybody is extremely healthy-looking, with near perfect teeth. And the story just plods along, developing with agonizing slowness.

They told us SGU was going to be different than SG-1 and SGA. They were going to focus on characters and character development with less focus on missions and over all story arcs. From episode one I was hooked. I do feel how they ended it was appropriate but rushed and that makes sense because they thought they could have had a third season. I was sad to see the show end with only having two seasons. Out of all the Stargate shows this one by far has the most connection with the characters. I enjoyed all the Stargate shows.
  • At first boring, than fantastic

As a stargate fan I gave SGU a go and disliked it enough to not watch it past episode 5. But than about a year after I gave it it a second go, and now I'm hooked. It is definitely a completely different style, I can see why true fans would dislike it. I think the number one reason I enjoy it is because it feels so fresh and original. SG-1 had great stories plots and characters, but SGA was basically the SG-1 style without mythology and original ideas (don't get me wrong, I still love SGA!!). But on the other hand SGU style is completely different and only keeps the original ideas that actually work for the show. Any way I could go on and on but instead I'll say this. I am a true fan of STARGATE and if you give it a go you will eventually enjoy SGU and respect SGU as a unique brand of STARGATE. If you still don't like it as Stargate show that imagine it's not, ether way you will like it. JUST GIVE IT A FAIR GO!!!!
  • Amazing series, cut short at it's prime

Stargate Universe is the most serious of the series, and it has a meaningful mission that the ship they are on. The show brought a few new concepts to the Stargate group. The show started out kind of slow because all the characters and backround had to be introduced withing the show, unlike Atlantis which was introduced and got started from within SG-1. Atlantis was already halted by the time Universe got started so there was no opportunity to do this, and as a resut the beginning was a little more serious and talkative. The series became increasingly intense with lots of strange concepts and plot twists thrown in. The show was constantly getting stronger in its storyline, and was cut short just as it was getting to one of the most intense suspence points Stargate as a whole.

I gave this show four episodes to interest me and it failed. This show was just so boring and I am a fan of SG-1 and Atlantis. I tried to like it, but it's hard to like a show when nothing happens. It's a wonder this show lasted as long as it did.
  • Great Series, Cut in its Prime

Stargate Universe would easily be my favourite in the Stargate franchise. Season 1 does take a while to get started, what with all the character backgrounds/exposition etc, but it really helps set everyone's personalities up before launching into an incredibly moving, meaningful story. Tv series like this only develop and get better as they expand, so to go to all the trouble of making me care about these people in the first series, only to cancel everything in Season two was incredibly heart breaking. Still, a highly recommended show- buy both series and show your support! With enough money, maybe they'll even reboot it one day :)

At first I was soo sore about SG1and SGA getting cancelled that I didn't like this new replacement bc nothing could take the place of those two great shows so I was very much against this new show so I didn't even give them a fair chance to win me over I am ashamed that I even wrote a very negative review about the first few episodes of SGU after I got past my own bias that by the 4-5 episode they had won me over I now own the first and second seasons on iTunes and xbox 360 and blu-ray just to support the show I very much wish that this show comes back one day Forever A Fan

Robert Carlyle is an AMAZING actor! Plus the show itself is just great. I could hardly stop watching it! The writing is great, the acting is great. Everything about it is great. Any fan, even a casual one, of Sy fy would LOVE this show!
  • soap opera in space

The weakest link of the Stargate franchise. The writing in the first season is awful -- more soap opera than scifi. The lengthy flashbacks, the interminable trips back to Earth, the interpersonal squabbles and romances, ugh. Who cares? The second season was a bit livelier and more interesting, but it's not hard to see why it got cancelled. As in the other two series, the writers consistently required the supposedly bright characters to do stupid things to create tense plot twists. That gets annoying. And as in Atlantis, there's a resident science geek who's a total jerk -- kinda weird for a sci-fi series if you ask me. The whole franchise was mediocre. Atlantis was probably the best of it.
