Description

How well do you know your neighbors? Meet the Weavers, Debbie (Jami Gertz) and Marty (Lenny Venito). Marty, in hopes of providing a better life for his wife and three kids, recently bought a home in Hidden Hills, a gated New Jersey townhome community with its own golf course. Hidden Hills is so exclusive that a house hasn't come on the market in 10 years. But one finally did and the Weavers got it! It's clear from day one that the residents of Hidden Hills are a little different. For starters, their new neighbors all have pro-athlete names like Reggie Jackson (Tim Jo), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye), Dick Butkis (Ian Patrick) and Larry Bird (Simon Templeman). Over dinner, Marty and his family discover that their neighbors receive nourishment through their eyes by reading books, rather than eating. The Weavers soon learn that the entire community is comprised of aliens from Zabvron, where the men bear children and everyone cries green goo from their ears. The Zabvronians have been stationed on Earth for the past 10 years, disguised as humans, awaiting instructions from home, and the Weavers are the first humans they've had the opportunity to know. As it turns out, the pressures of marriage and parenthood are not exclusive to planet Earth. Two worlds will collide with hilarious consequences as everyone discovers they can "totally relate" and learn a lot from each other.

This a a refreshingly funny show. The teenage daughter is a bit annoying but the show is still great.

I love the cadence of this show. The characters often throw away hilarious lines in rapid succession, and you if you don't pay attention you'll miss them. The premises is about a human family that lives among a community of lizard people in disguise. It's not rocket science, but I do what to know why they were planning on killing all the bees.

On the surface, it's "just" a really funny show. But pay attention and you'll notice a lot of hillarious allusions hiding discreetly (or, sometimes rather prominently, as in the season finale) in the dialogue. It's brilliantly written. No annoying interruptions by canned laughter (or screaming fans) inbetween lines make for a fast pace. Punch lines don't get spelled out in ten-foot letters - you either get them or you don't, but they keep coming and there's plenty for everyone.

I'll admit, the first couple of episodes weren't the greatest. They weren't bad, but it wasn't all that great. I've learned that when watching shows, you should at least watch most of thirst season to see if you like it. It allows for the writing to progress and the actors to gain chemistry. I must say that I'm glad I stayed with the show. Each episode got better and funnier. Can't wait for season 2!
  • It's a Steal!

This is a hilarious, clever little show. I watch several comedies each week, but this has quickly become one of my favorites. The social commentary from the aliens' perspective is genius. I watch it live every week, but also bought the season pass because there are so many clever puns and comments that I laugh just as hard on the second and third viewings. All main roles were well cast, but the show stealers are definitely Jami Gertz as Debbie Weaver and young Ian Patrick as Dick Butkus. Very funny. Definitely worth buying.

I didn't start out watching The Neighbors because I thought it was probably just the same old alien show where we see all the foibles and traditions of humans through the eyes of aliens and they learn something from us and we learn something from them blah de blah blah. But I ended up staying in front of the TV after The Middle was over one evening and I didn't regret it. This is a fresh and hilarious twist on the alien human interaction. While there is that "learning" going on it's more than that. There are real relationships being built. I think the cast really meshes well together and whoever came up with the characters and their names deserves kudos. Larry Bird is one of the main reasons I watch and if you watch the episode entitled "the Gingerbread Man" you will know why. I was rolling on the ground laughing at how his mind works and the things he does to solve problems. The Christmas episode is another great example of this. And the little actor who plays Dick Butkus is fabulous. His first week at mainstream school was well written and acted. Hilarious! The other actors are good too but thos two make the show for me.
