Description

Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) demands confirmation of the orders only to be unceremoniously relieved of duty by the White House. XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) finds himself suddenly in charge of the submarine and facing the same difficult decision. When he also refuses to fire without confirmation of the orders, the Colorado is targeted, fired upon, and hit. The submarine and its crew find themselves crippled on the ocean floor, declared rogue enemies of their own country. Now, with nowhere left to turn, Chaplin and Kendal take the sub on the run and bring the men and women of the Colorado to an exotic island. Here they will find refuge, romance and a chance at a new life, even as they try to clear their names and get home.

I loved this show, and I am very bummed that they took it off the air.

This is really a gem and a decade ago, it would have gone on for 5 seasons. The concept is great and the cast, acting and the writing is great. It is an action thriller that won't disappoint. Yet, it is canceled. That fact by itself is a testament to the cancer called "reality TV" that is now putting good shows out of business. Why spend millions of dollars for 15 episodes of a costly good show when you can put up $10k-$50k to get celebs who have outlived their careers to dance or jump into the water. It is simple math for network execs. Spend a million or spend 10k and get the same ratings. Hence, we as American viewers, so hypnotized and deprived of remnants of intellectual health have surrendered such good shows so we can watch an aging Playboy model dive into the pool or get fired after not selling hot dogs fast enough. The degenerate wave is effectively destroying good TV. If Lost was on in 2013, it would not have been picked up for a 2nd year in lieu of DWTS, Splash or some new singing contest with defunct pop star judges. Going back to this series, it is great. And it has been lost.

What's great about it: Unique Concept, Top Notch Acting What's not so great: Rushed Plot (by the end of the series) *Note that this review does not contain any specific elements of the series or bonus features, as I do not want to hinder the experience for anyone. Read official (plot) descriptions if you would like to know more.* Successes: This show is definitely a complex, entertaining, and unique concept, yet it remains entirely believable for the first half of the series. All of the acting is first rate and can be attributed as the best part of the show, while the special effects and cinematography hold their own as well. The Biggest Accolades I Give to Last Resort: Due to the realistic nature of the set-up, this series can act as a potential warning for conflict resolution (or lack there-of) within international disputes. It also serves as a haunting, albeit critical, wake-up call to how America operates at times. Failures: What truly hinders this program is that it was placed on ABC as a last resort, if you will, to try and find an audience in a time period that has not worked well for the network in years (the last successful show in the 8/7c Thursday time slot was "Ugly Betty", a much different series). As such, it inevitably failed within the target demographic. By the time the ending of the show comes, the writing team had to craft an ending that should have been stretched over 22 episodes into a final four out of thirteen. The action becomes scattered and unfocused, the characters unhinged, and the series buckles under its own weight. Ultimately: Unfortunately, had this show been allowed a full order the series would have been one of the year's best. As it stands, however, Last Resort is compelling and provocative--especially early on--yet not entirely satisfying or believable. An immediate suggestion that would have made this release better would be additional episodes--so as to resolve the storyline in a more believable fashion. If you liked this series, two other interesting but swiftly cancelled series on ABC are Red Widow (2013) and Missing (2012). Both of these shows are more female-centric, but hold similar gravitas to Last Resort.

As usual the networks cancel interesting shows and leave the crap on. I wish this would have had another season.

Really enjoyed the show but sorry it got canceled! But why is the season still priced so high? I've purchased all episodes and it says I can still purchase the season for $38.87? Hmmm that doesn't seem right!

While the finale, like much of the show, fell short of a big bang, the conspiracy fan in me made it very watchable.
