Description

Is it possible to produce a good TV news show and make it popular at the same time? That's the question facing volatile cable-news anchor Will McAvoy and the ideological staff that has just been foisted upon him in Season 1 of this HBO drama series from Aaron Sorkin ('The Social Network'). Overcoming a tumultuous first day together, the acerbic ACN Network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), new executive producer MacKenzie (Emily Mortimer), their newsroom staff (John Gallagher Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, and others), and news-division boss Charlie (Sam Waterston) set out on a patriotic if quixotic mission to 'do the news well' in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles, and their own personal entanglements.

Regardless of one's political bent, we should all be rejoicing in the intelligent dialogue in this show. It's so rare to have a show where one actually needs a mind to follow the conversation between characters in the show. I have loved Aaron Sorkin shows back to Sports Center and this is another winner. Please, please, please make Season 2 available soon!

The Newsroom is by far one of the most brilliant shows I have ever seen. HBO really has shocked me as a viewer since they keep churning out all of these great hits (True Blood, Veep, Getting On, etc.). The First Season was great but you definitely will not get invested in the characters until the fourth or fifth episode. Most people will not like this show because there really is no action-Then again, this takes place in a television newsroom so that's why. Aaron Sorkin is truly brilliant. My only complaint is that the next seasons will decrease in the numbers of episodes. Season 2 has 9 episodes and third and final season which will debut in Fall 2014 will only have 6. However, you will understand that the show really only needs three seasons when you watch the Season 2 Finale. Watch this show. Its superb.

People saying this is a liberals dream show. If you watch farther than the first two episodes you realize that he's a conservative crashing through the heart of our nations mistakes.

Is it the frenetic, shallow writing? Idiotic physical comedy? Or that every character has the same hyper-neurotic personality because the dialog is so dominated by the linguistic sense of the writer? Into music is nice, some of the plot points are interesting, but all of it wrapped in package that does little to imbue the characters here with anything like the rich inner lives available elsewhere on television these days. Seems like a throwback.
