Description

Lucas Hood, Carrie Hopewell and the Banshee Sheriff's Department cope with the fallout from their bloody face-off against Rabbit while Lucas faces a new and deadly threat in Season 2 of this gritty Cinemax action series. Created by Alan Ball (‘True Blood’), the show focuses on Lucas, an ex-convict who assumed the identity of the new sheriff in the rural town of Banshee, PA. Picking up where the first season left off, Season 2 finds Carrie exposed and estranged from her family while Lucas has his hands fuller than ever dealing with the murder of a Kinaho tribe girl, escalating tensions between Amish overlord Kai Proctor and tribe leader Alex Longshadow, and an unwelcome visitor: the reprobate son of the real (dead) Lucas Hood. Antony Starr, Ivana Milicevic, Ulrich Thomsen, Frankie Faison, Rus Blackwell, Ryann Shane and Ben Cross head up the cast.

Compared to the first season, second season gets a bit whiny (especially between Anna, Gordon, and their daughter) to the point its becomes annoying and distracting. The sexual tension between Hood and Anna is intense and expected first season but becomes too fretful and draining in season two. While the cinematography is unique for a while- it goes over the top with a barrage of flashbacks or imagined fantasies (especially for the Unicorn episode). Overall it was worth watching, just had to get over the emotional hump that became more of a drag than a catapult of excitement. I’m really looking forward to season three!
  • Are you not entertained!?

Perfect combination of violence, sex and repeated tests of moral fortitude. Enjoy every second.

All the main actors are great, the directing and photography are above average, but the script is just cheesy and marginally dimeaning of the actors' talents. Not to be too tough on this show cause that's typical of most TV shows. I was pretty much in a comotose state after the first season just watching this show meander all over the place as is typical when producers of TV channels start taking over pretending they're movie directors when they couldn't direct a class of 4th graders to save their life. That all stopped at episodes 5 and 6. It's common for a lot of changes to occur behind the camera on every TV show. Different directors, different photographers, different scriptwriters, etc....However, episodes 5 and 6 really woke me up to a new talent behind the scenes of this show even though they were using the same actors. Those 2 episodes were different qualitywise in direction, photography and script. They were on par with cinematic TV shows you'd see on HBO. Turns out the new talent behind the camera was a director by the name of Babak Najafi. He directed part 2 of the swedish movie Easy Money. This guy didn't just change the episode's photography he even upgraded the script and inserted a new style of story telling that will probably be copied by other big name directors in the future. It's a shame the producers of this show couldn't keep him onboard to finish off the season because he sure left his mark! If you have to see just one episode of this show to test out how good it can get then choose season 2 episode 5 "The Truth About Unicorns".
