  • Quirky, visually beautiful film

Along the lines of Lost in Translation or a Wes Anderson film, this is a quirky and slowly-paced film of an American (Tom Hanks) working through a mid-life crisis while trying to make a technology sale in a discombobulating foreign environment. It is a nice study of the different characters, and if you don't demand or expect it to be something it's not, it slowly pulls you in and has you rooting for the different characters.

I dislike about four out of every five movies I watch. This was the one.

By suspending disbelief I enjoyed this movie. But that took some work. Because in Saudi Arabia, women do not go out alone and when among strangers they wear a burka. This movie ignores that fact. In the real Saudi Arabia, the relationship at the core of this movie simply could never happen.

Having experience living and working in Saudi Arabia, I have to say this was a pretty clear representation of how life for a foreigner is in 'The Magic Kingdom'. All people hear about, especially westerners who don't travel, are the bad things regarding the Muslim community. Although the customs are strange at times, Saudi Arabia is a fascinating place. I really loved this movie and will watch it again and again. Tom Hanks I believe did a great job as did the rest of the cast, especially his driver. Spot on! 😊

Movie is kind of weird and the fact it never showed up in theaters is testament to not being very good. A sleeper. Save your money

Does the rental come with another free movie as well? Either Apple or the the movie maker company is getting REALLY GREEDY. One has to be really dumb to RENT a movie for $5.99, regardless of who the main charter is.
  • Simply awful

I just cannot imagine what compelled Tom Hanks, certainly one of the greatest actors or our time, to star this pointless movie. There is no plot, no story, no nothing! Save your money!

Remarkably bad for a Tom Hanks movie. It dragged on and on with no action or forward motion of the story line, or if there was, it was too subtle for our cognition; we never did figure out what the point was. We waited patiently for it to catch fire, but we finally gave up about halfway through. It was billed as a comedy but we didn't get more than one little chuckle. What a waste of time (ours) and talent (Hanks')!
