Description

A never-before-told tale of endurance and determination, 3100 Run and Become follows participants in the world’s longest certified running race - the Self-Transcendence 3100 Miler - as they attempt to shatter the boundaries of human possibility. The film takes the audience from the heart of this astonishing event staged entirely in New York City to sites around the world where cultures have held running sacred for millennia - to the Kalahari, the mountains of Japan and to the Navajo Nation where people run not for glory but for spiritual enlightenment and universal oneness.

I just watched the movie and highly recommend it to anyone, not only long distance runners. The flow of the movie with running start at the sunrise in different parts of the world till one reaches the goal is symbolic of life itself with many challenges to overcome. The movie is done beautifully telling stories of two main characters among other heroes in the 3100 mile race in New York who challenge the impossible. The stories of a Buddist monk and Navajo runners go in parallel showing how all the characters are ultimately connected. Truly inspiring!

It is definitely a great film! The dimensions that the film is tapping into are amazing. You come out of the film and say: "Wow, which Everest am I going to climb?" Deeply inspirational and illumining!

Great story about a race that is largely beyond comprehension. 3100 miles in 52 days. Around 60 miles a day. Story is provides context by exploring other cultures that have running in their spirtual roots. Highly recommended.

Remarkable film about ultra-long distance running, one of the few films that ties running to an inner / spiritual quest. Must see.

For anyone interested in how running transforms lives. How it calls out the best in is, and gives us resilience and fortitude unlike anything else. Prepare to be inspired and elevated both as a runner and a human being. Incredible storyline, script and cinematography. 5 stars start to finish. Bravo!
  • Best Running Film I've Ever Seen

Saw this *great* movie on a big screen in Flagstaff in a theater filled with runners including several Olympians. This was hands down the best film on running I've ever seen. The cinematography blows other documentaries out of the water, but the story-telling style was unlike any other running film out there. In fact, the film was on par with any great narrative film on running from Chariots of Fire on down. My mother-in-law joined my wife and I, and she's not a runner in any sense of the word. And she LOVED the film. But more importantly, many of us in the running community were moved to tears. The film captured the emotion we all feel when we run. But it did an exceptional job in widening our horizons. The way the stories were interwoven - from the Navajo to the Bushmen to the Monks ... it was exceptional. And make no mistake, this film's core is the world's longest running race, something none of us in that theater would dare even attempt. But far from being a hardcore, sweaty, blister-filled gore-fest, the film was poetic, emotional, lyrical and penetrating. Skip the winter miles. Watch this film instead. You will become a better runner.
