I grew up watching this movie. To this day i still love this movie. Growing up we used to go to lancaster all the time and i have always been fascinated by the Amish and the way that they live. Harrison Ford did a great job at playing a detective. And Kelly Mcgillis played her role really well. This is a movie worth watching!!
  • A quiet thriller

It's a really riveting film. It is quieter than most thriller stories, but I reckon that's the point of this one. Harrison Ford is really good in this film and is somehow able to scold people into submission. Also, keep your eyes peeled for Viggo Mortensen.

Saw this when I was still living in NYC...loved it. Coincidentally, have since moved to Central PA, just 30 minutes from Lancaster. So many great things in this: the Godunov-Ford-McGillis "love triangle," portrayed perfectly by all 3. The barn-raising scene--IMHO, the single best no-dialogue movie scene ever, carried from beginning to end by the stirring music and glances/gestures among Godunov-Ford-McGillis characters. Danny Glover, in one of his earliest movie roles (I think), was excellent....great supporting cast.

this is one of the greatest movies ever. harrison ford is great at capturing john book. there could not have been a better choice. and this movie shows the difference between worlds but even so, it is still possible to coexist peacefully. i absolutely love this movie. either buy it on itunes or go out and buy the dvd. this film is a classic
