Description

Based on the novel by Vera Caspary, this classic noir mystery about the disfiguring murder of the title character (Gene Tierney) has a detective (Dana Andrews) falling in love with the portrait of the fallen femme fatal. He looks to a trio of suspects to solve the bloody crime; a newspaper critic (Clifton Webb), Laura's playboy fiance (Vincent Price) and Laura's socialite aunt (Judith Anderson). The mystery is turned on its head when the still very alive Laura reappears.

The end of the movie cuts off…looking for another way to inform Apple of this, but in the meantime hopefully this helps someone else 😣

Excellent quality transfer! Every knows this movie is a top notch classic but this transfer is super clean! And that’s what makes this price point worth it. Sound, as you would expect, is good. It would be nice if Apple added the trailer to these films.
  • Aspect Ratio Right!

I bought "Laura" in January 2015. I put the movie on Pause and measured the picture size on my TV screen. 40.3" wide divided by 26.8" high equals 1.50. So please forget all that posted nonsense about incorrect aspect ratios. The frames look perfect!

This movie is exceptional. It was a gift so I didn't know what the format was until I downloaded it. I just wished it wasn't squished into a letterbox format because it really is distracting! Hope Apple will make this in standard format soon. I will be checking back to see if they fix it because this is really a Five Star film but it's current availability has made that rating impossible.

PEOPLE.... you're already on a computer! Do some Googling, please. Widescreen (Cinemascope, VistaVision) wasn't used until the 1950's in an effort to lure the public back into theaters. Television was exploding and people were staying home (or visiting neighbors) to watch "free" entertainment. Laura was released in 1944. Do a bit of reasearch before demanding what doesn't exist! BTW... Laura is a must have classic! Gene Tierney is STUNNING!!! It's got a neat trick to it and keeps you guessing until the end.

The cast alone in this movie is amazing you have the ever sarcastic Clifton Webb and one of the few times that Vincent Price is not playing the horror bad guy which we all know he does so well. Then of course you have the ever dashing Dana Andrews who starred also in State Fair in which he had someone else sing for him becuase he didn't release to the company that he was an opera singer.Gene Tierney, is just beautiful and graceful. The film is my favourite. The set design is awesome along with the wardrobe and if you add that to the wonderful acting and script you have on awesome movie. (Then again I was always a sucker for old movies especially those with my name:D)

    Be mad at Rupert Murdoch!
  • Apple should be ashamed

Ditto the previous review. Fantastic Movie but why is it only available in the incorrect widescreen ratio? This film was shot in 1.37:1 and should be available in that format. If Apple insists on distorting classic films, it should warn you before purchase.
