I do not often write reviews about movies I dislike but this movie needs a warning label. It felt awkward, dull, somehow sensual rather than intimate or endearing, and I honestly only got to where she licks his scar... I read the book a long while ago but it didn’t seem to follow the storyline closely. This is my favorite type of movie and I’m beyond disappointed. Positives... camera guy did a creative job.

the cinematography is amazing. the director captured the raw beauty of the English countryside and portrayed the book wonderfully. I love how dark and gloomy everything is and this is now one of my favorite movies ever. hands down rate this a 10/10.

This film is beautiful and dark. It is visually stunning. Passions and emotions are emphasized with flashback images of their memories and body language. I loved that there was not a lot of dialogue. It allowed the backbone of the story, the pure love, heartbreak, and cruelty, to come across to the viewer even stronger because it allowed the actors to portray their feelings with action rather than words. The moor appeared so much more as an escape, a different planet, and their 'place', than any other film adaptation of this story. This film is romantic, cruel, animalistic, and lingering. The (visually) dark parts of the film were essential for understanding their way of life, and allowed for beautiful framing of important objects or people, and hints at their surroundings. The people that don't like this film must have zero exposure to art or heartbreak, juuust saying.

Despite the gorgeous sceneries and emotional atmosphere, the plot and original power of the novel were pretty much diminished. Not only was volume two (the part where Heathcliff sets off his full revenge on not only Hindley, but on the next generation) completely deleted, so was the intensity and insanity of the characters’ dialogues gone. The director seems to reinterpret the novel in a poetic and elegant fashion, but failed to realized that the brutality and rawness of the original story is the core as to why the characters are intoxicatingly beautiful. I do not recommend this movie to those who truly love the novel, because this is not a complete and realistic portrayal of the original story.

If you've read the book, this adaptation will be disappointing. Needless to say, I've read the book.

Do not watch this miserable waste of 2 hours of your short life. Dark, sordid, cruel, sadistic, and I pray those animals were not needlessly hurt in the making of this trashy film. I will make sure I never watch another movie from any of the people involved in this awful awful film. No words to say how horrible it was. I'd sooner watch a dracula movie. Cannot purge my head of this soon enough. I'd like to give it a minus 100 star rating but I'm afraid in order to post this I might have to give it a star.

The English was hard to understand and the plot wasn't that good. The ratings are very misleading! In all, it's not even worth renting.

Just shoot yourself before you put yourself through the misery of watching this movie.... More fun and entertaining to watch yourself bleed out than watching the literary crap.... I normally would have loved something like this and decided to give it a shot!! I needed a shot after watching this!!
