Still fills one with dread and paranoia after all these. Dripping with relevance as the 2020 woke mob eats everything in its path.

I just saw this for the first time. For the time period, it isn't too bad.

The movie is rushed, the characters at the beginning know way too much way too fast with very little evidence. I usually complain about movies starting too slowly but this movie has the exact opposite problem.
  • A Soulless Duplicate of the Original

Don Siegel directed the original "SNATCHERS" and it was copyrighted in 1955 and released in 1956. Everyday people were being duplicated by the giant seed pods and converted into soulless human duplicates. The 1978 remake is terrible---it's a soulless duplicate of Siegel's flick with no sense at all of what Jack Finney's novel basis for the 4 SNATCHERS flicks to date} was all about: conformity crushing love and less pleasant human emotions. In the 1978 disaster we get to see Mr. Spock--Leonard Nimoy--play an alien--Big Deal. He played a Vulcan in Star Trek to much better effect. The 1978 movie is not only bad, but it has a runtime bloated with comic relief--no tension at all. Yech!!!!

Most remakes are garbage, but this film still holds up. I actually like it better then the original. Donald Sutherland is excellent in this film.
  • One of the Few Great Remakes!

If you're looking for a great "monster movie" or glitzy special effects, you best look elsewhere. However, if you want a creepily disturbing sci-fi/horror story that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat, you won't be disappointed! While I typically dislike almost all remakes and reboots, this is one of the exceptions that is at least as good if not better than the original (1956) version. This is in large part due to Philip Kaufman's story-telling ability (The Right Stuff, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Henry & June, Rising Sun) and great cast. I've waited for years for iTunes to release this title and can't wait to watch it again!
