Description

With one of their fathers recently deceased and the other hardly there, fate brings fifteen-year-old Paul and fourteen-year-old Michelle together in a chance encounter. Instant friends, the young couple flees Paris on a whim, and takes refuge in a rural cottage. But as their fondness for each other blossoms into deep affection, their short trip becomes longer and their love deeper. This timeless classic, directed by Lewis Gilbert and featuring Elton John’s hit soundtrack, proves that friendship knows no age, and true love knows no boundaries.

We’ve all been there. Ever since the first time I heard Elton John’s song of the same title, I’ve been trying to hunt down this movie. Brings you right back to your first love. Now, right, on to find the sequel.

When it was released in 1971, Friends was panned by many critics including Roger Ebert. However, in the 21st Century, we have different values about teen sexuality. Anicee Alvina is just adorably c-u-u-u-u-t-e and Sean Bury is just right as her lover in this charming and warm movie. Michelle Latour, Alvina’s character, has a delightful sing-song French accent. This movie and the sequel made in 1974 are the best films that the two actors have ever made. The movie is particularly important because Friends and the sequel Paul and Michelle are show pieces for the actress who unfortunately died in 2006 of lung cancer. She was born in 1953. In a recent email from Sean Bury I quote him as saying “She was a very nice lady." If you like love stories, this one is a sweet one.
