Description

Liam Neeson stars in A Walk Among the Tombstones, an action-thriller based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling series of mystery novels. Neeson plays Matt Scudder, an ex-cop turned unlicensed private investigator who reluctantly agrees to help a heroin trafficker (Dan Stevens, TV's Downton Abbey) hunt down the men who brutally murdered his wife. When the PI learns that this is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that these men have committed this sort of twisted crime, he must blur the line between right and wrong as he races to track the deviants through the backstreets of New York City before they kill again.

  • As intelligent as any Three Stooges movie

    Only not quite as funny…
  • Extreme Sadistic Violence

This film is a test of a viewer's lust for extreme violence. Another new low in a troubling Hollywood formula that plays to the worst human instincts while printing money for the purveyors. I stopped watching at the half-way point feeling emotionally polluted.
  • JUST......RIDICULOUS

All I saw were good reviews, where do you post the real ones? Just impossible scenario, poor script, and elevator music score. They keep pumping this brain filler crap and we keep thinking they care about making something worthwhile. I wonder where you're going to hide this one..

Neeson is the film. He does a superior job with a confused and underwrtten plot. If you like Neeson doing action AND drama, then this is for you.

I love Mr Neeson’s work so I knew I would like this movie, very surprised to find I REALLY liked it. Unexpected pleasant surprise was the dark suspense and unrelenting tension that felt a lot like a Scandinavian movie (like The Bridge, The Killing etc.) with no stupid Hollywood nonsense - there are several high level drug dealers but they are acting like the worried husbands and fathers they should be, no infantile acting here. Also, the young black actor was allowed to be real and not a caricature, nor was he made to look pathetic despite his many problems. Bad guys were also very well done - cunning but not that bright but disturbingly sadistic and slimy… really slimy - you’d want to shower after just walking past one of these creeps. Neeson was made for his role so you know what you’re going to get there and was allowed to use a version of his famous Taken phone conversation - no problem with that, it wasn’t forced and fit right in. Excellent movie!

This movie had a throwback feel to it like something from the 70’s or 80’s I liked it, it’s ok. I recommend it if you like gritty cop/detective/private investigator type movies.
  • Best Liam

Much more nuanced and interesting than the Taken movies, with a more interesting lead character. Plus some nasty serial killers. Highly recommended.

I rented this on the strength of the trailer, and none of the name reviewers saying it was “intelligent” or any of the other words signaling creative constipation that sacrifices the muscle of a story for empty pretension. Compared with the trailer/opening sequence, the movie’s a letdown, but it’s still not bad. For: good camerawork and editing; Neeson’s engaging face; pretty good pace; an interesting thesis, where bad guys fall prey to guys so much worse you (supposedly) feel for the bad guys. Against: drug traffickers with all the menace of a barista in a bad mood; total cliché genius homeless black boy; protagonist again and again magically knowing the answer; about 25 minutes of Neeson looking soulful just to show he cares; and worst, a completely impossible ending, where the bad guys suddenly decide to play into the screenwriter’s hands, because otherwise, Neeson would end up wandering around the set slapping himself in the head. Not sorry I rented, but I’ll double check the next time I see these names.
