Each year the Doctor Who production team of the rebooted series creates a special for fans during the "off season." It has become a traditional Xmas gift for fans of the 45+ year TV series. For the past several years the storyline, visual effects and overall production have been getting better and better. The Xmas series has been one of the highlights of the year. This year however the Xmas special is a good episode, but not an enabler. Fifty eight minutes in length, this heart warming family oriented story that borrows from the Wardrobe from Chronicles of Narnia with a hint of Lord of the Rings will keep regular viewers content. However, unlike previous Xmas episode it is not a strong enough episode to entertain those who are not familiar with the good doctor on xmas day. It doesn't reach the heights of last year's Xmas carol or 2009's Voyage of the Damned or 2008s… Previous Xmas specials were a free shot of heroin, opening a door to a whole new universe...someone who has never seen the show before could watch one hour of Dr Who, enjoy, crave more and begin their journey. This episode is more like a shot of Johnny Walker…great for those who have already acquired a taste, but somewhat abrupt for those who never partied.

My favorite of the Christmas specials! It was a great episode with a great message. Not to mention it made me cry. You did it a gain Dr. Who. Great show

Matt Smith just has the captivating innocence that the Past two 'new' doctors have lacked, in this episode it is not only made evident, it is shown through "happy tears" and the just care the Doctor portrays throughout the episode. Nothing too twisty ( a little un Moffat to me) but still phenomenal! Has a wonderful lead up to the next season (50th anniversary! wooh) and over all was an amazing Christmas special! If you haven't watched it, watch it.

Actually, I was super disapointed. Last year was so much better. I lost all hope as he screamed flying through space and getting into a space suit as he enters the atmosphere.

And the Doctor is back! Moffat's done better, to be honesty, but it's a nice touch for Christmas, and love the nice heartwarming scene at (bleep bleep spoilers). Definitely still better than Christmas Invasion or Voyage of the Damned. Hoping to see more.
