  • I had no expectations going in

I was actually surprised by elements of this film that I found myself wondering how could things go worse for the protagonist? I even kept resetting how much I found myself enjoying the movie. I am glad I decided to stream it late one night when I could t sleep. It still remains on my watch list and maybe others don’t like it as much, or they like it more? I only wish it had a much more fleshed out ending? I think that is what I am trying to say. Either way, I have seen more popular actors in movies on here that turned out to be disappointing. This movie is not disappointing. Worth a watch. Nurse Jackie meets Pineapple Express-level idiocy. (No weed)
  • So boring and is not a horror movie at all

This movie would be good as a show and it feels like your watching a tv comedy show. But I rented a horror movie and this was not it. It was boring too. I don’t know why there are high ratings and reviews.
  • How many TicTok nurses does it take to steal a kidney?

In case you were wondering: yes, a rating of 4/5 stars DOES mean that I believe a movie is 100% worth checking out. So let’s get that out of the way first. There can be no argument about whether or not the writer and the director of “12 Hour Shift” are extremely talented & are likely going to become rather significant to the entire Horror community over the next several years; However, this film is not the sort of debut that leaves your jaw on the floor, (Egger’s, “The Witch,” and Ari Aster’s, “Hereditary,” being examples of the most impressive debuts in recent horror cinema history). Instead, “12 Hour Shift,” rides through a wildly unpredictable number of sharp tonal shifts that are meant to channel the panic & anxiety of the Safdie Brothers’ “Good Time” or “Uncut Gems,” which of course doesn’t quite work since this film wasn’t made by the Safdies. There are a number of moments in the film where I felt that the intensity of the narrative was being undercut by minor characters whose sole purpose in the script was apparently to provide some levity(?), but they weren’t funny — they were in the way. There were also 2 or 3 times later in the film that were shrugged off or outright never mentioned again, despite being previously set up in the first act as an obvious detail or event to keep in mind for later, which was so odd....Yet I cannot deny that the majority of this film had my complete attention and emotional investment in our anti-hero’s success in her illegal, unethical, and morally indefensible mission of keeping her bosses happy in the black market organ harvesting industry. Oh, and the lead actress in this film IS PHENOMENAL. Hopefully we’ll see more of her in these sorts of genre titles. 4/5, Joe Bobb would probably say, “check it out,” (someone get in touch with him & see if he agrees with this lol).
