The War of the Worlds

The movie plot sticks to the book which is excellent science fiction. They couldn't make the tripods look real (like Spielberg could 50 years later), so they designed the cool martian vehicles seen in the movie. Otherwise, it a great cinematic implementation of Wells' work. I love the morality play at the end.

I am so happy I came across the original War of the Worlds for a great price! This movie is a classic and well worth a watch! The War of the Worlds is very nostalgic for me. Though most of the effects are dated it is still an overall very entertaining Sci-Fi movie. The War of the Worlds was and always will be one of the best Alien invasion movies ever made!

The movie is wonderful but this 4K copy is terrible. Any dark scenes look like a horrible comic book drawing. I hope that Apple watches this and decides to change it. The sound is quite improved and the picture in bright places looks great. Any scene at night is Dismal.

This has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. This new 4K Dolby Vision remaster looks amazing. This is the way it should be done, an upgrade that doesn’t tamper with the original. Just a little wire removal, and a damned good clean up.

The other two were the original Day the Earth Stood Still and Forbidden Planet. All three share tight editing, above-average acting, and enough drama to satisfy the audience. Chiefly, all three share an amazing art-deco aesthetic that transcends fads and fashions: The Martian war machinery in this spectacle is every bit as visually arresting and timeless as it was the day the movie premiered. A must-have for the serious (or semi-serious) collector.

This movie gets FIVE STARS for it’s special effects, love the sound of the martians rays coming from their machines but it mostly gets a five because instead of humans always defeating and saving the day for the planet, this time humans couldn’t win and the earth saves the day. Now of course if this were true, I obviously want humans to prevail but since it’s not real it’s good to see mankind lose. That is why I gave this awesome movie FIVE STARS! BEST SCI-FI MOVIE OF ALL TIME!! I watch this movie over and over!!

Long movie but the sound effects gave me a headache

Much better than anything Tom Cruse did. Mostly faithful to the original, great special effects and good acting and actors. The originals are usually better, seems Hollywood cannot come up with an original idea, remakes a classic and ruins it.

I was watching the trailers offered here and the second one offered turned out to be the remake. Watching that trailer reminded me of some of the reasons that remake was so bad! I immediately remembered that squealing kid! She was enough to make your head explode! I wish that the Martians had eaten her at the beginning so we wouldn't have to here her annoying squeals through the whole movie. The only amusing seen in that version is when Gene Barry and Ann Robinson come on screen in the end. I think they were saying to themselves we made a much better film 50 years ago! I wish some of the reviews for the 1953 version discussed the transfer quality. Most of the people buying this version already know this film line by line so please talk about the transfer quality. and iTunes gives us ratios not vague terms like widescreen or full screen. This film was made in academy aspect ratio (roughly square). What does full screen mean? This film should have bars on the side of my 16x9 TV. If it fills the screen either it has been stretched or enlarged with the top and bottom cut off. I can't understand why somebody would think they know better than the films makers and that its perfectly alright to fiddle with their intentions.
