Description

It's the last call for Atlantic City booze kingpin Nucky Thompson and his Prohibition-era cronies as HBO presents the fifth and final season of the Emmy(R)-winning drama series. Set in 1931, six years after the events of Season 4, the country is in the throes of the Great Depression. With the end of Prohibition in sight, Nucky looks to legitimize himself by forging alliances with liquor producers. Meanwhile, the death of Arnold Rothstein has led to a major power struggle; Margaret's fragile job on Wall Street is threatened by her boss's suicide; Chalky White looks to exact revenge on Valentin Narcisse; and Eli Thompson is now working with Van Alden under Al Capone.

One on the best written tv series ever. Steve Buscemi was cast perfectly as Nucky. I was sad to see it end.
  • Love the series but… disappointing finish

-SPOILER ALERT-Superb acting by Steve Buschemi and story development by the writer. The problem is, the development was so superb that when it all ended, it really left you hanging and wanting to know more about many different subplots. It gave a feeling that everything was tied up abruptly without a complete conclusion in haste - possibly to lack of funding or interest by the creators or the producers. I'm not a believer that killing off a character is always the best solution. As a viewer I grew interested in knowing what happened next to many different characters, but as they got killed off one by one - so did my interest in knowing the final conclusion. The series easily could have continued into the 6th and even the 7th without over-milking it, let the plots thoroughly unfold and transform as the Volstead Act was lifted and business transforms -and then end it. The ending seemed highly formulaic and unnecessary.
