    Doctor Who was originally intended to teach history, as in "The Aztecs," and this episode is among the "historical." In any case it's one of my favorites. I particularly enjoy the sparring between the Rani and the Master.

    This is the first time I've seen colin baker as the Doctor. No wonder they fired him. and the whiney assistant... eeegaads. I only got this because of the theories that the Rani may come back in one of the Tennant specials. The Rani is a renegade female Time Lord. That is really all there is to it. Save you money and buy a coffee. Bad Plot, with Horrific Acting. Maybe Mrs Saxon was the Rani, maybe not. All you need to know is that "The Rani" is a title of a female time lord (like the Doctor or The Master) If you watch this episode you will waste an hour and a half of your life that you can never get back. Collin Baker should be Flogged and whoever hired him should be drawn and quartered. And did I mention I didn't like it so much?

    If the rumors are true that the Rani will be in the final episode of the 10th Doctor, and you do not know who she is, this is her first appearance in the series! A great start for a great baddie! I think Colin Baker's Doctor is soooo under rated! Get past his stupid coat and realize what a great Doctor he truly is! In order, my favorite Doc's are: 5, 3, 10, 6, 8, 7, 9 and 4.

    Colin portrayed a more alien Doctor-- with a harsher tetchiness, like the First Doctor, and eccentricity like Tom Baker. The Doctor is alien so every regeneration is going to be different. Trial of a Timee Lord, you will see a much more relaxed 6th Doctor who gets along very well with his companions. But do not blame Colin for the early rudeness of his Doctor--it was how the producer wanted him to be, and the writers had to follow along with it. Do not leave Colin out in putting episodes out. The man has been voted best Doctor on Dr Who audios very recently, so that goes to show you, the 6th Doctor is not so bad when given a chance. Mark of the Rani is quite good-- with the Rani (Kate O Mara) and The Master Anthony Ainley. but you may question the dress Peri is wearing. It looks as though she's on her way to do some clog-dancing. But the story is quite good, and a bit silly, but it is better then Twin Dilemma--Colin's first episode as the 6th Doctor. And as his seasons go on, his Doctor tones down.

    Maybe it's just the material, but Mark of the Rani was my first exposure to Colin Baker's Sixth Doctor, and I've taken an immediate dislike to his era. The Sixth Doctor comes off as, to put it bluntly, an egotistical screaming jackass (taking Peri to task in harsh terms for the slightest "even the dimmest Time Lord knows THAT..." mistake), and the script is very anvilicious in preaching a particular viewpoint (was that jab against eating meat, for instance, REALLY necessary to the plot?). Peri seems to be as useful as Venetian blinds on a lighthouse: basically her job seems to be to sit back and take the Doctor's less-than-justified abuse -- Sarah Jane or Liz or Ace would have drop-kicked his sorry rear eons ago -- and to be a well-endowed piece of fanservice eye candy for the audience. Some people might like the Sixth Doctor (perhaps the same people who enjoy root canals), but personally, I hope that iTunes focuses more on the Pertwee (especially the Pertwee), Tom Baker, Davison and McCoy years.
