Doctor Who: The Power of Kroll

Episode 3 is really Episode 4 and vice versa. So until iTunes fixes the problem you need to watch Episode 4 then Episode 3.

oh the power of nostalgia. I was always a fan of Doctor Who but being from the US and a child before the days of mandatory cable it was always an unplanned sort of surprise when I caught the odd episode here and there on public television. So it was with some excitement that I began exploring these seasons (with Tom Baker of course). It is certainly an acquired taste, and one that requires an element of nostalgia to make the camp more palatable. I don't usually write reviews but having said that, this four episode installment in the "Key to Time" season is so campy and laughable that I have to warn someone out there. Not so much to stay away as to say beware, ahead lie scenes that are "Ed Wood bad" with hack actors "wrestling" with tentacles, gangs of scrawny loin-clothed men who speak with English accents, employ some comical form of hand gestures and have just enough splotchy green body paint to cover their farmers tans. Don't get me started on the monster itself. But for all of that, I can't get enough of these. There is something appealing about the DIY nature of the production, the earnestness of the actors, the silliness of the Doctor. I haven't seen any of the new series but I doubt these qualities have carried over. Which is probably a good thing...
